Persons receiving commodities MUST present a BLUE FOOD CARD.  Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

 

Families who need to re-certify or apply for the first time may do so at any Community Action office in the Tri-Counties.  

 

Chippewa County  at Avery Center, 524 Ashmun St, Sault Ste. Marie

Luce County at the Newberry Community Action Building

Mackinac County,  Community Action Building on 368 Reagon Street

 

New cards WILL NOT be issued on the day of distribution.  

Applicants MUST provide proof of total household income, including wages, pensions, interest, unemployment or disability benefits, public assistance, and all other income.

Eligibility is based on annual income

 

The limit for a single person UNDER age 60 being $14,079.  For each additional person UNDER age 60 in the home, add $ $4,862 to find the maximum allowable income.  

 

A single person 60 or older may receive up to $ 17,328 per year- and remain eligible.  For each additional person 60 or older in the home, add $ 5,984 to find the maximum allowable income.

 

Commodities cards that are issued to Senior Citizens or Handicapped persons will be specially marked so that a friend or relative may pick up the food.

 

Distribution is 9:00 a.m. until Noon, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.  Many centers will NOT remain open once the food is gone.  Check with local centers in case of a schedule change.
