GENERAL SERVICES
Commodity Surplus Food Program provides eligible seniors and children (non WIC eligible, age 5-6) with monthly commodity foods.
Targeted Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) This federal and state funded program is distributed quarterly to income eligible persons.
provides assistance to income-eligible applicants for utilities, rent and other emergencies.
Free Tax Preparation Assistance Individuals or families that are eligible for any service being provided by the CAA are eligible for free tax preparation services by appointment.
Outreach Services Outreach involves referral of clients to agency programs or to other agencies that can assist with problems. Outreach workers perform the assessment of client needs.
Sault Dial-A-Ride Transit operates within the City of Sault Ste. Marie and offers low-cost fares to it users. All buses are wheelchair accessible.
The Sault International Bridge Bus provides shuttle service between Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

CHILD AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT CAA administers the federally-funded Head Start program and the Michigan Department of Education’s Four-Year-Old-Preschool program. Programs vary in eligibility requirements.
All programs are designed to help children develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Classrooms throughout the tri-county area provide a stimulating environment in which parents work with teachers.
Components include: education, parent involvement, social services, medical / dental services and nutrition education. Preschool programs operate from October to May.
CDBG Home Rehabilitation Program works in cooperation with Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac Counties to provide necessary home improvements. Zero interest loans secured by non-diminishing liens are provided to homeowners. Homeowners normally provide a 25% leverage amount to complete the rehabilitation project.

Weatherization
Program
is designed to help area residents by providing insulation, weather stripping, and other energy-saving measures. This program is available for owner occupied homes, mobile homes, and qualified rentals.
Walk for Warmth is a community event organized cooperatively by Community Action and the non-sectarian advocacy group known as Faith Works. The funds raised by the event assist Chippewa County residents; targeting seniors, the disabled, and the "working poor" who are in danger of becoming homeless due to emergencies such as electrical and heating fuel shutoffs.
Home Buyer Education Home buyers are counseled through the home buying process to support programs that increase homeownership opportunities for low- to moderate- income families.
Home Buyer Purchase Rehabilitation This program is designed to provide low- and moderate- income families with support to become homeowners. The program will pay for up to $5,000 per family in closing costs, down payment and/or interest buy downs and limited funds for required repairs established by an HQS inspection. This program is not intended to provide new housing, only rehabilitation of existing housing. Available only in Sault Ste. Marie specified neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Preservation
This program will strengthen a specific neighborhood by providing low- and moderate-income homeowners with deferred payments, and no-interest mortgage loans for homeowners to fix up their homes.
Property Management / Rentals CLMCAA manages rental properties located in our tri-county area: Avery Square Senior Housing, St. Ignace Senior Housing, and West Bridge Apartments Supportive Housing.
Home Injury Control Determination of a safe living environment, the purchase of equipment for eligible senior citizens to reduce/prevent potential injury.
Homemaker Services
Homemaker Aide service is available to help homebound seniors accomplish daily tasks. Services might include shopping for groceries, scrubbing a floor, vacuuming, dusting, or helping with laundry.
Loan Closet Assists individuals with equipment such as shower chairs, canes, walkers, wheelchairs and commodes. Community Action Agency also welcomes donations of equipment.
Meals on Wheels
This program provides nutritious meals that are delivered daily, human contact, support and nutrition for seniors who are in ill health and homebound.
Nutrition ProgramThe Senior Citizen Nutrition Program operates out of 13 centers throughout the tri-counties to provide low-cost, nutritious meals.
Personal CareIn-home assistance with (ADL) activities of daily living for individuals includes: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring, eating, and ambulation.
Private Duty ServicesMultiple visits as contracted for by consumer/family, assistance with ANY aspects of independent living status, actual service is determined by consumer (when applicable) of family member.
Respite CareWeekly visits to relieve primary caregiver, includes supervision, companionship, and assistance with activities of daily living.
Service CoordinationIntake/Needs Assessment provided to consumer on a bi-annual basis at no charge. Includes referral and recommendations to supportive resources as necessary.
“Take Five” Adult Day CareDrop off centers in Chippewa and Mackinac counties, relieving caregivers to memory loss clients. Includes: supervision, activities, meals are provided, and cost sharing components. Contact CLMCAA for service days and hours.
